A note to parents and teachers:

The following slides are pictures that I have taken on our school campus and in the city of Brentwood, California.  Included on each slide are some ideas for word detective study.  Teachers can print out pages for in-class challenges or for homework.

The purpose of these pages is to make students and parents more aware of our spelling and decoding system.  The pages are designed to help parents see how they can help their child at home.  Simple rules and patterns will be featured on each slide.

Parents are encouraged to work directly with their child on the challenges.  Make it a family activity.

Now----as you're driving in the car, riding your bike, or walking down the street, in the mall or  grocery store----be a word detective.  Look at those signs.  What do you see?  What do you notice?  Look for those little words inside of big words.  Look for rules.  Have fun!!!!!
